I was about two weeks pregnant here & had no idea.

I was about two weeks pregnant here & had no idea. The crazy thing is a few months before, I relaunched my art + design studio & I was dreaming about how cool it would be to include mural work in my studio.
Next thing I know, I was all booked for the year and ended up completing 8 mural & wall designs all while carrying Shiloh 🤰🏽
I share all this to encourage you to finally start whatever God has placed in your heart. Don’t walk in fear, don’t make excuses, just take that first step and start—before you know it you’ll be living in the moment you prayed for years ago.
This was the very first time I painted in such a big scale (26.5ft x 8.5 ft to be exact). I remember saying, I’ve never done it before but I’ll figure it out lol. That’s God-confidence right there. I was praying the whole way through 😂

// Preparing for the fourth trimester is just as important as preparing for birth! Planning ahead can make recovery so much easier & allow you to be in a better place for both yourself and your new baby. Birth is just a few hours, Postpartum lasts for months— don’t forget to prioritize it!
Postpartum with my first child was incredibly difficult, I had no idea what to expect. I was lonely, in lots of pain, stressed, sad, sleep deprived & very anxious. I was scared to be in the same place again so this time around I was very intentional with how I wanted recovery to look like for me. Planning ahead has been a game changer so far. I can say that I’m actually enjoying the 4th trimester this time around! 🤍//

First outing as a family of 4! 🥰
Getting 2 kids out the door is an extreme sport! For some reason newborns always poop right as you’re walking out the door & the older kid can never find their socks 🤣
We went to The Immersive Van Gogh Experience & it was amazing! We got to see his major works come to life in this beautiful music/light show. Perfect family friendly activity— Zion had a blast & Shiloh slept for most of it! (Free admission for kids under 6yrs)

It’s impossible to plan all the details of your birth but you can make sure that no matter what happens, you receive the care you deserve & are at peace knowing you made the best decisions for YOU.
With my first baby I was 24, no one in my circle was having kids & people weren’t as vocal on socials about birth/prep experiences. Like many, I relied heavily on my OB to give me all the information I thought I needed when it came to my birth.
Fast forward to my due date, Baby hadn’t arrived and I went in for my 40 week check up (I had been 5cm dilated since the previous week). The first thing my OB asked was “do you want to have this baby today?”
I thought, “oh wow I didn’t know I could choose.” So I called my husband to hear his thoughts and we decided, “Yeah let’s do it.” Her response soon after was, “We could’ve delivered this baby last week if I knew you’d be dilated 5cm for a whole week.” (Wut 🤔) Before I knew it I was scheduled to be induced later that afternoon so I hurried home to get ready.
If you didn’t know— Black and brown women in U.S. have the highest rates of induction which can increase risks for both mom and baby. Yet another contributing factor to black/brown maternal mortality rates.
I found out later that it wasn’t necessary to get induced at 40 weeks if there were no complications. Induction isn’t typically discussed unless it’s 1-2 weeks after due date & if baby hasn’t arrived.
I thank God that there were no issues during my first birth but wish that my OB gave me more info & that I had the courage to question her.
Advocating for yourself is very hard and is extremely intimidating in situations like these. The reality is that although medical professionals can know what they’re doing (at times)—at the end of the day your care and safety is what matters most.
For my 2nd birth, I was able to have the most incredible experience because I did things on my terms. Thanking God for all the mamas on this platform that are sharing their birth stories & encouraging others to advocate for themselves!
